Inter-Atoll TransportOnce you arrive in the Maldives, you can choose between regular flights to the regional Maldives airports or water transport services to the resort islands.
Here's a a quick overview of the transport facilities in the Maldives:
- Malé Airport
Malé airport occupies its own dedicated island and is the central hub of most inter-island transportation. The majority of visitors to the Maldives arrive by plane at Malé, and are picked up from the airport and transported to their chosen resort.

There are four regional airports in the Maldives:
- Gan in Seenu Atoll
- Kadhdhoo in Laamu Atoll
- Kaadedhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll
- Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll

- Inter Resort Transfers
- You can choose to transfer to your Maldives resort via ferries, seaplane or speedboat. We recommend the seaplane option as you'll have the opportunity to see many of the islands from the air and the views are truly spectacular. If you choose the boat alternative, be sure to book a seaplane tour at some point during your stay. And be sure to bring your camera.
Some resort packages include transfer fees in the price while others do not. Be sure to check this before you book. Transfer fees can be fairly expensive if you pay for them separately.

- Resorts located close to Malé will cut your transfer time to under 20 minutes, while those that are further away may take an hour or two to reach, depending on the mode of transfer you use. Avoid the two-hour speedboat journey if you've just flown in from across the globe or you're prone to seasickness.
