Choose From A Standard Or
Luxury Maldives Resort

The Maldives is a truly spectacular destination. And while it doesn't offer budget vacation packages, you'll find a variety of standard and luxury resorts to choose from.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding on a Maldives resort:
  1. Budget

The 87 plus resorts in the Maldives cater to all types of budgets, so you should have no trouble finding accommodation that meets your needs, plus allows you ample funds to cover any activities you want to participate in during your stay.

So the first thing to do once you source a suitable resort is to check for availability and book early.

  2. Package Deals

Do you want a vacation package that includes accommodation, meals and specified activities? If you have a specific interest such as diving, you'll find packages that feature this activity, offering you a considerable saving on equipment rental and related costs.

All-inclusive packages (including meals and drinks) may be more cost-effective than bed and breakfast packages, as food and beverage costs at most resorts are expensive. If you're a light drinker or a non-drinker, full board may be a better option, as it covers meals but not beverages.

  3. Location

This is an important consideration if you arrive with a number of must-see or must-do activities. Check what day trips the resort offers.

You need a location that isn't too far from the facilities you require and the places you wish to see. You don't want to spend too much of your time commuting.

On the other hand, if you're visiting the Maldives to get away from the stresses of day-to-day life and just relax on the beach or in the pool, location is less of a factor.

  4. Language Preferences

If you speak a language other than English, you can stay at a resort that caters to a specific nationality such as Italian, Japanese or German visitors. Even if you live in an English-speaking country, you may enjoy conversing in another language for part of your vacation. On the other hand, this could be a problem if you don't speak the preferred language at the resort you've chosen, so check before you book.

  5. Type of Accommodation

Do you fancy staying in a beachside bungalow or enjoying the benefits of a five-star hotel? A water villa is actually located over water while a beach villa is generally a few yards from the sand, so clarify the terminology before you book. Be aware that styles vary considerably, from traditional hotel rooms to thatched cottages with partially open-air bathrooms.

Naturally your choice will take into account the person or people you're traveling with and their individual plans for your time away together.

Be aware that some resorts don't provide a television in the rooms, so if it's important to you, check with your travel agent before booking.

  6. Traveling Companion/s

Are you visiting the Maldives for a romantic getaway or are you treating the family to a special holiday?

Do your companions have special needs? If you're traveling with children, look for resorts that offer suitable entertainment or a children's club.

  7. Preferred Activities

What do you want to do once you get there? Take a look through our Maldives Activities page and jot down a few ideas. If you're a diver, check that the resort you're considering has quality diving facilities. What else do you want to do? Does the resort organize island cruise or night fishing expeditions? Or if you simply want to lay back and relax, some of the smaller islands may be more suitable.

If you want to indulge in some well-deserved pampering, many resorts offer a full service spa (see our Resort Spa list).

  8. Time Of Year

The best weather occurs between December and April, which is naturally peak season in the Maldives. If budget or crowds are a consideration, consider traveling off peak or during shoulder season.

  9. Length Of Stay

Are you wanting a few days to unwind, or is this an opportunity to do and see it all? Do you prefer a party atmosphere or a quiet cozy setting? If you spend time looking through our list of resorts, you're sure to find a facility that meets your needs.
